Welcoming our new residents!

As the calendar turns to August, we are thrilled to welcome our 2021-2022 residents to our Clinics.

The School of Optometry & Vision Science's optometric residencies are one-year, post-graduate, experiential training program, designed to extend and refine the optometrist’s knowledge and skill in specific areas of clinical practice. Residents' skills are enhanced primarily through the delivery of supervised clinical eye and vision patient care, and enriched by seminars, clinical research, and teaching.

The University of Waterloo’s School of Optometry & Vision Science is launching a new pilot program to ensure patients suffering from glaucoma can access the health care support they need through a virtual platform.

Imagine reading a map or email on a head-up display right in front of your eyes — it sounds like something from a sci-fi novel, but it’s one of the many possible future uses for contact lenses that has been predicted through current and emerging research.

Now at the halfway mark of our strategic plan, the University of Waterloo's School of Optometry & Vision Science has recently released a report on progress, detailing the ways in which we have successfully moved the needle forward on our strategic vision.

Meet Alexa Hecht, Class of 2021

Growing up in Winnipeg, new graduate Alexa Hecht was inspired by the prospect of becoming an optometrist after watching two close adults in her life lead rewarding careers in the profession.
