Thank you for your interest in preserving the history of vision science. The
continued growth of the Museum of Visual Science collection has been
made possible largely through the generosity of its donors. Please feel
free to make a monetary
donation online, as The Museum of Vision Science is looking to expand
and relocate its facilities. For details, please see the Museum's
expansion plan.
If you are interested in donating an artifact to the Museum, we kindly
request that you consider the following:
- In order to avoid lost or damaged artifacts, please do not mail or deliver any objects
without first contacting the Curator or Assistant Curator.
- We kindly request that a photograph and a short description of the object be mailed or
e-mailed to the Museum in advance, since it is often difficult to determine the type and
condition of the artifact.
- The Museum is not always able to accept all gifts that are offered. Objects are reviewed
on the basis of their physical condition, historic importance, and whether or not they
duplicate examples already in the collection.
- Not all donations are accepted. If an artifact is not accepted, but has been delivered
or mailed without prior contact with the Curator, arrangements will be made for the
donor to pick-up the item or the item will be mailed back at the expense of the donor.
- A tax receipt will be issued for the fair market value of the offered gift. An appraiser
independent of the Museum must appraise any gifts thought to be valued over $1000.00.
External appraisals will be arranged at the cost of the donor.
- Donors are required to complete and return a copy of a Museum gift-in-kind form for all
accepted artifacts.
